The Importance of PR and Press

Video is so incredibly important in real estate. There once was a time when people cared which brokerage you were working for. But now, they couldn’t care less. They want to know YOU. And it’s in your best interest for them to get to know you via video, before they ever meet you. If they know you before they’ve met you, then they’re far more likely to want to work with you when the time comes that they need you.

One thing a lot of agents are afraid to do is niche down. It seems counterintuitive to reduce your business down to a smaller subset of people. But when you do so, you go from being anything and everything to everyone, to a super-refined pro to those who are most likely to want to work with you. In turn, you attract to yourself the kind of people you want to work with most.

Start out by speaking publicly, on social media, about the things you’re most excited about. What do you love to do? What are you most interested in? Put that content out into the world, and the people who will be interested in you will find you. Remind those people from time to time that you’re a realtor, and they will think of you when it’s time to buy or sell a house.

How do you narrow down your niche? It’s simple: find your “Why?” Once you understand your “Why,” then you’ll realize what your favorite part of the business is, and who your favorite customer is. When you’re working with your ideal customers, then your job won’t feel so much like work.

In order to be most effective on video, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

  1. It Looks the same as your picture. Don’t use something from 20 years ago, or excessively airbrushed, where your potential clients wouldn’t recognize you if they fell on you. Be the person they see in the videos.

  2. Have all of your ducks in a row. Get on all social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. The more platforms you appear on, the more likely you are to be seen by a wider audience.

  3. Be consistent. Your potential clients are going to google you. They’re going to want to see what you’ve been doing and the content you’ve been putting out. They’ll want to see that you’ve been consistent, diverse, and informative.

One way that you can use media to launch your business is to get in with major news outlets. You can write articles for them, and make videos that are interesting enough to catch their interest.
